About the Artists

Christoper Haritatos, cello
Cellist Christopher Haritatos has over 20 years of experience as a baroque cellist with period-instrument ensembles on three continents. He has collaborated in chamber music with artists such as Marc Destrubé, Kristian Bezuidenhout, and Sergiu Luca, and has played in ensembles such as the Handel and Hayden Society, Ars Lyrica Houston, and Tafelmusik, as well as acting as the continuo cellist of Fiori Musicali-Barockorchester Bremen and Apollo’s Fire. Chris is equally accomplished as a modern cellist and is a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Also sought after as a teacher, he has been on the faculty of Texas State University-San Marcos and has given numerous workshops and master classes. His major teachers were Alan Harris, Steven Doane, Pieter Wispelwey, and Jaap ter Linden, with whom he studied as a Fulbright Scholar at the Akademie für Alte Musik Bremen. Together with his wife, violinist Boel Gidholm, he is co-director, since 2011, of Publick Musick.

Gitanjali Mathur, soprano
Grammy winning artist Gitanjali Mathur is hailed as having “skyrocketing coloratura”, “fluid and dexterous voice”, “piercingly clear soprano” and being a “natural and convincing comedic actress.” Ms. Mathur completed her higher studies in voice performance at Indiana University, Bloomington, along with minors in Math and Computer Science. She resides in Austin, Texas where she is a full time singer with Texas Early Music Project and GRAMMY®-winning ensemble Conspirare conducted by Craig Hella Johnson. In addition, Ms. Mathur is a part of the eclectic ensemble Convergence (winner of the 2013 Austin Critics’ Table Awards for Best Small Ensemble). She has performed in France, Italy, Germany, and Denmark. Ms. Mathur is featured on Serphic Fire’s GRAMMY®-nominated CD A Seraphic Fire Christmas. She has sung the roles of Serpina in Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona, Gabriel in The Creation by Haydn, Mozart’s Exsultate, Jubilate, “The Witch” in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Venus in John Blow’s baroque opera Venus and Adonis, Christmas Oratorio with The Concordia Choir, and made her solo Carnegie Hall debut with Helmuth Rilling in J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion. She has sung with the early music group Ensemble viii, Bach Collegium San Diego, Spire Ensemble in Kansas City, True Concord in Arizona, and Vox Humana in Dallas.

Nicholas Garza, tenor
Characterized by The Dallas Morning News as a “countertenor full and fluent, glowing on top, dispensed with the loveliest legato,” Nicholas Garza has been hailed for intimate, engaging performances across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. An early music specialist, Garza has performed with ensembles including Ars Lyrica, the Chicago Arts Orchestra, ensemble viii, Bach Akademie Charlotte, Spire Ensemble, The Oklahoma Bach Choir and Soloists, La Folia, Austin Baroque Orchestra, Tactus, and Mountainside Baroque. Working with noted singer and conductor Simon Carrington, Garza was twice a singing fellow at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival of Yale University; additional festival credits include the International Cervantino, Victoria Bach, Big Moose Bach, Hawaii Performing Arts, and Bach Akademie Charlotte festivals. A frequent performer with the American Baroque Opera Company, Garza has sung roles including the Sorceress in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Ruggiero in Handel’s Alcina, Cortez in Vivaldi’s Montezuma, and Rinaldo in Handel’s Rinaldo. He also appears regularly with the Dallas Bach Society, Orpheus Chamber Singers, Orchestra of New Spain, and Incarnatus. A Harlingen, Texas native, Garza studied at the University of Texas at Arlington under Jing Ling-Tam and David Grogan
